Gaile Noonan
My principal place of residence is in the Nelson City Council - At Large area.
Born and raised in Nelson. I have worked hard during my two terms of Council to continue to make Nelson a fantastic place to live and work.
My background in legal, insurance and real estate and my connections with the community have been put to good use in my positions as Chair of the Community Services Committee and as a member of Governance, Works and Infrastructure, Regional Transport and Chief Executive Employment Committees.
One of the rewarding aspects for me as a councillor is to listen to your concerns and views and then bring those to the Council table. Our decisions need to be what is in the best interest of Nelson and its residents.
I continue in my roles as Deputy Chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Foodbank volunteer and am an active Rotarian.
I would love to represent you again and would very much appreciate your vote.
What makes Nelson so special for you?
Nelson is very special to me possibly because I was born here and the heritage is very relevant to me. The changes in the city over the years has been very positive when we see how the walkways wind around the Maitai River and out to Tahunanui beach. The Rocks Road area needs some improvement for walking and cycling but the potential of this beautiful city is all there. The central City is often a sought-after photographic spot with the Cathedral and all the trees lining Trafalgar Street to give shade in the summer. I especially appreciate the specialty food and drinks that Nelson has encouraged and others have developed in recent years, many testing their produce in the Nelson Market. Some have gone on to be an international success. We have a growing population of diverse cultures adding a richness we welcome. Overall, it’s an easy City to live in and is not far from activities like skiing, swimming in lakes, rivers and the ocean, hiking and biking to name a few - and all things I did growing up (as did my own children) in this City which is my home.
What is your vision for the city?
My vision is the one in our Long Term Plan "Nelson is a vibrant place where we are deeply connected with, and committed to, our natural, social and cultural environment. Clever business and innovation help us thrive. We enjoy living fulfilled lives in smart, sustainable communities".
