Residents Survey
Overview
Council seeks feedback from the community in a range of ways. One method is to undertake surveys because they can provide a broad spectrum of public opinion and help reflect trends over time.
Council has been carrying out residents’ surveys to measure satisfaction with its work since 1997. These surveys help the Council gauge how well the community supports its direction and priorities, and the results are used to inform how the Council delivers services.
An independent research company is commissioned to carry out the survey. Usually, around 400 people are selected at random and surveyed. To ensure most interests of the community are reflected, the company seeks a sample that is representative of Nelson’s demographics.
